I understand that feeling @Marie7, maybe as you continue to read along, you can start to think of things that you like around you or in daily life. It can be really nice to start off slowly with mindfulness by matching it to things you already do - like brushing your teeth and paying attention to that process. Coming up with activities is something we will do soon as the discussion goes on this evening!

That is a very valid point @Phoenix_Rising Well said. I had not really thought that much about that.

I don't think mindfulness has to be so tricky as an everyday thing. One of my favourite meditative/mindful moments is slipping into bed after putting on fresh sheets.

As for being mindful when in an agitated state - well that's somewhat more difficult. Perhaps if we did more of the former - everyday mindfulness - we'd be more adept at the latter.

How is it going @Shaz51 ? sorry I could not get your tag to come up.

Re: Topic Tuesday//How can I be mindful when I have a mindFULL//Tues. 20 March. 7pm - 9pm AEDT

The biggest barrier to me being mindful is my big emotions. I think @Phoenix_Rising has that part sorted. I think @Former-Member alluded to it too. I still haven’t been able to ride a wave or just notice thoughts and feelings without being caught up in them.

Re: Topic Tuesday//How can I be mindful when I have a mindFULL//Tues. 20 March. 7pm - 9pm AEDT

Very interesting discussion everyone.

Adding on to what I said earlier - I find one component to success with mindfulness with me is "self discipline". On those bad days when little sleep has been had and circumstances are not good that makes me struggle - I find I have to act against how I feel and "push with an act of will against the inclination to sit and not follow a rountine, or give into how I feel and stay in bed or remain inactive". Pushing through the latter to consistently practice mindfulness and keeping the mind busy, being focused in the now also gives birth to resilience for me. If I give into my feelings most days or early in the day it will undo the good and purpose of mindfulness in my experience causing relapse and at times anxiety attacks.

Consistency I am learning is important to the success of mindfulness - not just when i feel up to it I am discovering; not letting anything stop me from my rountine and/or from stopping me from doing that which keeps my mind/body busy - not focusing on my emotions will see them diminished. At first it's hard, but with practice developing self discipline, I find it becomes easier and more natural. I can also see mindfulness as a practice of mind over matter.

Yes, I find gardening and craft helps. Just got to try more in the really bad moments
