Hi, I’m going fine thanks. Considering I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, Bi Polar and major depression. I still don’t take any psychiatric drugs nor do I intend to. None of it is diagnostic. The drugs are highly addictive because if you stop them abruptly it makes you go into severe withdrawal state which is great for psychiatry. The money in this is huge..

Re: Part of the brain that causes you to disagree with doctors

hi @prodius

good to hear from you

my husband has being diagnosd with Bi Polar 11 and major depression and a few undiagnosed MI

Yeah, well I know mental disorders are real. Some people recover over time some don’t. Mental Health Services are only too quick to diagnose and prescribe (usually for life) or very long term. If the person continues having problems they are put on heroic doses which is completely stupid. it’s happened to me in the past and others. Or if something minor happens and you tell them they push pills on you very quickly anyway. They have a host of side effects including weight gain loss of libido cognitive function ect. A major review of SSRI drugs by the Centre for Clinical Intervention Research, in Denmark, concluded: The evidence on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) for major depressive disorder is unclear.... Our results show that the harmful effects of SSRIs versus placebo for major depressive disorder seem to outweigh any potentially small beneficial effects.

Drug companies are very wealthy and influential. You see it everywhere in the media and posters in public toilets if you are depressed see your doctor and you know what that means..

Re: Part of the brain that causes you to disagree with doctors

if you are depressed see your doctor and you know what that means..-- sure do @prodius

that is why my mr shaz has cancelled all help , he is staying on the 2 meds and that`s it

and I have kidney disease and diabetes and other problems and each time I go to the doctors they want to give me more meds and now they want to give me something for sleep and anxiety --- nooooooo

Exactly.. but at least you both have each other for support. Never let that go. My psychiatrist is pretty outspoken about this stuff and regularly gets threats. I know there is one in Melbourne and heard his pretty good. But I can see it getting worse and worse. It’s one thing to spread awareness about the stigma and judgment. But what they are doing is betraying the ethics of science. Criticism is the engine of science and it is being suppressed..

Re: Part of the brain that causes you to disagree with doctors

I have found the definition of anosognosia interesting - I think it means the denial that a medical condition exists and this is pretty obvious when a person has lost a leg and denies this fact but when it comes to chronic conditions - say - mental illnesses or chronic pain where the systems are not obvious then the whole subject becomes confusing.

I am having trouble writing this - but I do believe that we can disagree with the diagnosis and discuss this with the diagnosing specialist - in fact we have the right to our own opinions and it can be confronting to confront an authority.

When this subject was first raised in January I was in the middle of hearing several different opinions regarding treatment of chronic pain which cannot be cured - only managed. My GP was on holidays and I became confused with several different opinions in a short space of time but didn't just listen passively but was an active participant in the conversations and was very glad when my doctor return from leave and told me that he would support my on-going treatment plan the next time I see the specialist which is next month

So @Shaz51

I must get back to Mr Shaz who really seems to have severe anxiety at times which causes him to suffer from more anxiety and his self-treatment is often to go to bed - and it must be difficult for you to know what to for him at times and with your mother being so ill you have agreed that Mr Shaz seems to become worse when your mother needs you and you asked somewhere else what you can do about it. That is tough to answer so I have been thinking about it.

Mr Shaz has the right to disagree with the diagnoses he has been given - still he does seem to be in denial - and it doesn't matter to us ordinary people what the condition is called or what part of the brain generates this denial but here you are -

Aw Shaz - I could be wrong but it seems Mr Shaz needs some tough love - or Tough Love - which is a way of managing people who are not co-operating with social aspects of life and we have to work out whose problem it all is and this can be really unpopular - but what to do.

My ex-h didn't want to take headache pills and I reached a stage that I didn't want to hear any complaints until he took something - and this was painful - he would moan gently whenever I walked past the door - I would ignore this but it was irritating

So here you are with Mr Shaz not liking his medication and stopping and starting with it - going to bed - constantly worried - and it must be so hard to hear about this all the time when you have health problems of your own and your tough old Mum insisting on her independence and sending away the helpers -

I like her style btw - but I know she has to take the help - but Mr Shaz does seems to get worse when your Mum needs it

Try some Tough Love Shaz - with both of them when you have to but with Mr Shaz for sure - you can look that up on the Internet - it might help but it is Tough of You Too

Caring Shaz - we are all entitled to question the bodies of authority in our lives - in person - we need to follow their suggestions if such things help -

Can you or have your talked with Mr Shaz's doctors

Re: Part of the brain that causes you to disagree with doctors

sooo true my second mum @Owlunar , you are soo right xx

Mr Shaz does seems to get worse when my  Mum needs it or when life and business needs us more

seems Mr Shaz needs some tough love --- most times mr shaz likes me being in control of totally everything and then he fights against it

hard to find a right balance with it all

his self-treatment is often to go to bed--- it is now @Owlunar , but not in the past ( it was fight or flight )

and then with me being mentally and emotionally abused when young has stopped me from being who I am ?? @BryanaCamp
