Re: BPD and C PTSD

Hey @Autumn-leaves ,

Great question there.

I have BPD and it's on my records.

There are pros and cons of this.

BPD carries the stigma that borderlines are:

- needy

- manipulative

- attention seekers

So this means, when you go to emergency they often pretty much look at that then whip you off. That was certainly my experience.

Conversely, having a diagnosis can also be benficial in that the 'treatment' for BPD is very different to other MH conditions. Medication can help alleviate the symptoms, but it doesn't 'fix' the root problem. Research shows the strong benefits of talking therapy.

For me, I had my treatment at a Personality Disorder & Complex Trauma Service in Melbourne. I engaged in just ober 18 months of mentalisation based therapy.

But yes, this therapy is not available everywhere. It takes time and is often costly.

Hence probably the hesitance for a BPD diagnosis.

Hope this helps a bit.

Re: BPD and C PTSD

Hey group,

thanks for sharing your stories, i had a recent volcano eruption ( not good) that led to a diagnosis of Severe  Major Depression and now BPD traits, not the illness my Psychiatrist stated , I gained a 10/10 score, my question is to you is there a difference between trait and disorder ?
