Loving your sense of humour @Phoenix_Rising. Sorry to derail the thread @Former-Member.

@Former-Member Very well said.
I had not realised it, but yes, back when I was taught, that self discipline was a part of the mindfulness itself.
I had forgotten to separate the two. So correct. Without the self discipline, well the rest falls apart, doesn't it.

Oh @Former-Member i know that is the biggest challenge for me at the moment. Not giving in to my feelings I find very hard. I think perhaps you’ve worked on will power and mindfulness. Seems like a pretty successful combination.

A lot of obstacles have been shared which is great, as we continue on maybe we can look at how we can reframe our thinking to get those obstacles feeling more like stepping stones we skip over as we head towards mindful life!
Some of the things mentioned have been
- Time
- Doubt
- Too much heighten emotions
@Former-Member has mentioned a good one when it comes to some self discipline and being consistent. What are some other ideas people have on getting our minds to not be too intimidated by the process? @Phoenix_Rising what you mentioned was also valid- as mindfulness has become a trendy thing to 'do' I have found myself feeling like its harder for me to achieve....because I don't think I am that trendy! What do others think?

@Teejwrote:The biggest barrier to me being mindful is my big emotions. I think @Phoenix_Rising has that part sorted. I think @Former-Member alluded to it too. I still haven’t been able to ride a wave or just notice thoughts and feelings without being caught up in them.
@Teej I'm not sure that I'd go so far as to say I have it sorted - it is more a work in progress. It is true that I understand the concept, but I'm certainly not always successful in riding the wave. Sometimes I flounder - you may have noticed.
But that's ok. That's why we talk about "practicing" mindfulness - it is always a work in progress.

I am finding it is helping @Teej as I learn the pitfalls the hard way. I have been use to giving into my mind and overwhelming emotions for too long and habits are hard to break, so now I am working on taking back control. Still a work in progress 😊

Indeed @Phoenix_Rising and hopefully the more we practise it, the better we become.
So has anyone got any useful techniques to become more mindful during the times when we need it most?
