Faith vs fear

Good morning,

hope your day has started well and you are in a good headspace. Unfortunately, I’m very anxious as I have a specialist’s appointment tomorrow and may need a biopsy done which really scares me. Does anyone have any advice on how to remain strong and positive in the face of fear? I could surely do with some help. I feel quite alone and scared 😱

Re: Faith vs fear

Hi @Hope27.  I was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in late 2022 and only had my partner to help me deal with it. That anxiousness and stress waiting for results has become a part of life.  I remember at the start, before I had the biopsy to confirm what we already pretty much knew, the stress worrying about "what ifs" and well as awaiting results was overwhelming.

The one thing that helped me keep it in somewhat control was to focus on the next result only.  It was far too easy to assume the worst, then think about what happens after than, then worry about that and what would happen then.... and so on.  By focusing on the next test or scan only, it helped me to not get too far ahead of things.  Focus on the next result, find out what it is and then I could think about that next step with far more information at hand.

It's stressful enough without adding worry about unknowns into the equation and FAR too easy to then start worrying about every terrible possibility the mind comes up with... and it can come up with a lot!

So just try to just think about the results of your biopsy and not what comes after.  Once you get the results you can either breath a massive sigh of relief or then start thinking about what the next step is, and then focus on that step.

I wish you the best of luck and hope that your result is good news.  And if not, then you do learn to deal with whatever you need to face.  It's not easy but it's so overwhelming at the start because of all the unknowns on the pile of things to worry about.  Once you start to get more results and more information it does become easier because the unknowns are the worst part.

Hey @Hope27 welcome!! It's so lovely to see you join the forums 😊

sorry to hear you're feeling a lot of anxiety over your appointment, i get that it can be scary not knowing what to expect. maybe planning a lil self-care activity for straight after your appointment can help ease the nerves and give you something to look forward to?

you are not alone here, and you've got this! 💗

Re: Faith vs fear

Morning @Hope27

Lovely to meet you and so glad that you have found your way hear.  As you already know from the replies that you have received, people on here are happy listen to your concerns what ever they may be, and do offer the best advice as many have gone through the same things as you have.  As  @MJG017 just said just take things in stages, just focus in on the first step, it might relieve all your worries , try not to predict what might or might not happen, stressing out on things that you can't control is wasted energy.  Use that energy on things you can control and above all be kind to yourself, thinking of you ...............Asgard
