Walk the talk - SEWB for SEWB Workers Thread

SANE would like to play its role in elevating the voices of SEWB Workers across Australia so keep an eye out in this thread for some top tips and useful hints from our friends at WellMob!

Let's dive into our first topic - SELF-CARE:

Making Self-Care a regular part of practice: A reflection from one Aboriginal health professional to another.

Tiarnee Schafer – Aboriginal Clinical Psychologist/ WellMob team member

As Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers, we often find ourselves juggling multiple responsibilities—caring for our clients and community while trying to prioritise our own wellbeing. In this Blog Tiarnee from the WellMob team shares some of her Reflections of her own journey, where she has slowly learnt the importance of balancing work and personal time.

Re: Walk the talk - SEWB for SEWB Workers Thread

This is such a great topic to be aware about and discuss. Self-care can happen when we are self-reflecting and are able to recognise when and how to look after our self. Sounds simple, although we often overlook it and not practice it well enough. I really like how the content aligns to the SEWB Framework (Social Emotional Wellbeing). I am going read the "self-care' tip sheet and complete the 'Stronger You Wheel' activity sheet.

Working with our mob is rewarding but can also be complex and demanding. Understanding this and learning how to keep yourself well is vital to ensure a thriving workforce.

Workforce wellbeing guide: a self-reflection and self-care resource for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services in the Kimberley

This guide for First Nations workforce uses the practices of self-reflection to promote worker wellbeing. Developed for ACCCHS workers, it also has relevance for First Nations workers in the health and wellbeing spaces. This resource is based on the Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) framework. The website provides access to research reports, fact sheets and newsletters

Workforce wellbeing guide: a self-reflection and self-care resource for Aboriginal Community Control...

I like this resource because it is a booklet kind of like a diary, with activities and explainers throughout. Its visually easy to read and complete and is a good reminder for us workers to take care of our selves through different self-care practices that are vital to keep doing the work we do to support our communities.

In addition to the activities and ideas, the guide provides several wellbeing resources and information on managing stress, burnout, mindfulness, setting boundaries and a psychosocial safety plan. You can’t pour from an empty cup and self care practices that make cultural sense for us mob, strengthen our wellbeing and the protective factors that keep us feeling strong.
